Port Douglas

Got to Port Douglas after an easy winding drive north along the coast from Cairns, and checked in to the rambling Mantra Portsea. It's pretty hot here -about 33 or so, and sunny, and the multi-level "lagoon pool" in the middle of the building looked very tempting. However, we decided to go the half a mile or so into town to get some food and had a bruscetta and schooner of Coopers at the "Iron Bar". Took a wander around and I got hoodies for the girls - a matching one to Jim's for Min and a more grown-up one for Amy. Hope they like them. Then back to Mantra, where I lost Dad on the way to the beach. This comes of us both being people who are convinced they know the right way to get to any given point. Eventually we both made it through the line of vegetation they have left between the hotels and the beach, and I went for a swim - an actual proper swim. Water temperature:Caribbean. The beach looks completely unspoiled.

Failed to persuade Dad to go in. He thought the water felt cold, which just shows how long it is since he's been in the water in Cornwall. am annoyed with him because he's booked a tour for us tomorrow which starts - starts!! -at 7am. Tsk.
